Amaya Suberviola wins the 40th BMW Painting Prize

Amaya Suberviola has won the 40th BMW Painting Prize, one of the most prestigious competitions on the national art scene, with her work ST25061 (Coger una pestaña con los dedos) (Catching an eyelash with your fingers). The Navarran artist has been awarded the 2025/26 Grants for the realisation of artistic projects with studio space at BilbaoArte.

The ceremony took place at the Teatro Real in Madrid, with the participation of Her Majesty Queen Sofía, among other personalities, who presented the award in recognition of Suberviola’s artistic excellence. The artist received the main prize for her work ST25061 (Coger una pestaña con los dedos), which was chosen from among more than 600 works submitted to this edition.

The jury highlighted her paintings’ ability to combine formal sensitivity, conceptual depth and a highly personal treatment of materials, aspects that the artist has developed throughout her career. Furthermore, in her work, the search for traces, traces and memory are articulated through paintings that move between abstraction and poetic evocation.

Amaya Suberviola has remained steadfast with an intense exhibition activity, participating in various fairs, residencies and national and international artistic research projects. Her recognition with the BMW Painting Prize gives new impetus to a consolidated and coherent career, linked from the outset to the contemporary creative processes promoted by the BilbaoArte Foundation.
