A talk as part of the course taught by Fernando Renes, “Ceramic Muralism: A Workshop in Artistic Creation on Tiles”, taking place from 1 to 12 June at Bilbao Arte.
The talk will be given by Antoni Jové, art historian and curator. He is the exhibitions coordinator at the Centre d’Art la Panera.
Since prehistoric times, the cave wall has been the space on which the symbolic world of humans has been depicted. Later, canvas and paper made it possible to transform art into a portable medium, so that works of art could be moved, sold and exhibited in different contexts. Even so, the attraction to the wall has always been present in the work of many artists who have conceived works as second skins for buildings.
In this field, ceramic installations, such as those by Fernando Renes, play a very important role in mural art. The lecture will examine various examples of interventions on walls and in architectural spaces using different artistic languages.
