Laia Sala works in analogue medium using a process that is necessarily related to time; a theme that is reflected in and obsessively occupies her ‘Nuevas cosas surgen de la nada’ [New Things Come Out of Nothing’].
That process seeks to explore the passing of time and the transformation of the gaze as the artist discovers Bilbao and its surroundings, a city which was totally unknown to her at that time.
What happened could be considered as an urban ‘crossroads’ where time is structured through an analogue process – and seeking to be a revival – to address the origin of the photographic image though different phases. The first stage was based on an initiatory and ‘virginal’ look at the then unknown city of Bilbao. Then, and building on that experience, ‘the second phase entered in the embodiment of her own reflection in its surroundings’, as Laia Sala explained. Advenimiento [Advent] is part of the first phase, when she was discovering the place, when the artist looked a Bilbao and its river estuary for the first time.
