The engraver and sculptor Blanca Muñoz Gonzalo is known for her use of steel and perforated sheets in her work, where she adds steel wires to turn them into sculptures. Her work is a very balanced struggle between its own strength and the material. Cosmology is the key influence in her work and is clearly depicted in Andrómeda [Andromeda]. Time and space give moment to the sculptures by inviting the audience to surround them to achieve that kinetic perception.
Andrómeda is a stainless steel sculpture, but its structure is very light. Attached to the wall, it creates an illusion of suspension and gravity, which is fully woven into the depicted theme. Its curved lines, together with the interplay of light and shadows, make the work very dynamic. Blanca seeks to anchor the work in the space, while creating a feeling of lightness and movement, despite its large size. Depicting the galaxy is the main theme, similar to a meteorite or a celestial body.
