Marte’s art works around writing, graphics, audiovisual, conversation and performance. That is all rolled out in a way that is never straight, direct or obvious between desire and experience, what has been lived and is yet to come. A way of investigating, concocting, writing and drawing where the artist ‘flits like a butterfly’. In other words, the very wandering and shifting becomes a dialectic form of orientation: it is a game of self hide and seek. Two pieces emerge in this process: an artist’s book that contains wrapping paper bags, and foil that contained food eaten by the artist while producing his work; and a wall installation that contains different transformations of two recurrent drawings (a two-headed swan and an imploding volcano) in his work and which the artist produces with a certain automatism in his performance, literary and film production.

Pablo Marte (Cadiz, 1975) is an artist and researcher. His practice revolves around how processes of image signification and discourse production are articulated –and re-articulated – through a symptomatic, expansive, and heterogeneous practice of montage.
