Centro cultural híbrido [Hybrid Cultural Centre] (1998) is a sculptural model that reproduces the showcase-entrance of Sala Rekalde. The piece emerged from the production process of the S/T exhibition, presented at the Sala Rekalde of Bilbao; it critically explores the forms, mechanisms and symbolic and material conditions of production, reproduction and representation in the art system, in the context of cognitive capitalism.
The model also acted as a simulation device: it was used as a model to generate images anticipating an intervention at Sala Rekalde, acting as prior – and standalone – representation of the very intervention before it was embodied in the exhibition space.
Ricardo Antón Troyas is a multidisciplinary artist who places his work in a relational space between what we take to be art, the existing structure for its development, and the social context in which they occur. He describes himself as an ‘ignorant master, un-artist and designer in transition, with a critical approach aimed at fostering collaborative practices and social innovation processes’. He is an active member of the ColaBoraBora group, a ‘laboratory’ of collaborative practices that redefines methods and processes, and provides strategic consultancy services, designs innovation ecosystems and facilitates participatory processes, together with being part of networks that bring art, science and society together.
