The CHATARRA [SCRAP] project is based on reflecting on concepts such as overproduction, excess consumption and recycling in our society, seen through the figure of the scrap dealer.

There are many people in the city of Bilbao at risk of social exclusion, whose livelihood depends on collecting items of no apparent value to then be recycled. The photographs of the series show – and always from the same perspective – the trolleys used by those scrap dealers, in which they store the items gathered during their search.

Additional information is provided with the photos – type of items found, value of the recycling market, time used to gather them, and so on – in order for the viewer to grasp an idea about the circumstances of the work of the scrap dealers.
