Lucía’s artistic practice starts from drawing and photography, with room for humour; she then produces images that help her achieve a pact between her thoughts and her actions. Her work focuses on trying out small filters and mechanisms through which the images pass, resulting in new forms that end up generating their own imaginary.
Butts is a graphic work consisting of six bright and large drawings of below the waist, that are displaced in a standing position with sexy poses. The form and volume of her figures contrast with the flat space, the underlying symbolic imaginary and the monochrome of the technique used. Willing to explore new problems, the artist resorts to the simplicity of black ink, a neutral tone, containing all colours, which she uses as a link and is thus able to produce an accessible and broad landscape. The butts being broader is also down to their arrangement.
In this research into the depth of the object, the place it occupies and the distance ratio, the artist starts from a specific aspect – the bulk of the backsides and the legs – to submit the strokes to the will of the form. This allows her to focus on the logics of the technique to finish transforming the depicted element, to recognise it from another place and to grasp it.
