Entanglement is part of the Red Thread series, produced during her residency at BilbaoArte, when she was commissioned by the Histeria Kolektiboa Association to develop a photograph for the Mujeres desenredando violencias [Women Disentangling Violence] event. The work had to address the theme of ‘power and privilege’. She chose to work with a red thread – which had already been used in the film Mária Vörösben (Mary in Red), as red is a recurring colour in her art, not only in that film, but also in the Azkorri árnyéka alatt, which she was writing at that time. Different images emerged as she was working on the project; they included Entanglement, which shows two hands bound together by a red thread.
Eszter Katalin (Budapest, 1991) is an artist and film maker living in Vienna. Her work develops an essay and documentary experimental practice from a queer-feminist and lesbian perspective, focused on the politics of the gaze, the ethical representation in the moving image and political struggles.
