Miguel Ángel Madrigal’s work explores various intersections between sculptural language and site-specificity derived from architectural analysis, in dialogue with the media he employs. It also engages with different ways of manipulating objects and materials, challenging gravity and balance—not only in physical terms but also within artistic conventions, as well as questioning the conventionality of artistic supports. He works with forms and objects that we recognize from everyday life, but when they are arbitrarily related to one another, they are re-signified, radically changing our perception of them. In this context, the work Espacio Habitable [Habitable Space] is conceived as a sculpture that simulates a nomadic habitable space, seeking to generate a place of retreat and refuge.
He has positioned issues of urban occupation within his sculptural language by placing recognizable forms as patterns for the design and conceptualization of projects, in which the exhibition space is transformed into a kind of aseptic, monochromatic diorama that articulates a critical reflection on the context in which these works take place.
