Alberto Lomas’s proposals lie between the technological and the social, in the form of performances and audiovisual installations. His work seeks to generate situations, usually linked to technology and its underlying languages; it is a critical scrutiny of the limits of the individual and the construction of identity in today’s society.

Etorkizuna airean [The Future Up In The Air (2024) is an installation based on the reports of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). Words taken from them are projected in the space in order to show the distance existing between the proposed avenues for action in the reports and the inaction or failure to put them into practice. In short, Lomas shows that those words remain “up in the air”, and end up casting moving shadows on the future of a human being hell bent on continuing in an arrogant system of constant growth.

The words are here screened on the evidence: a photo of the dried-up Ebro reservoir in summer and which recalls the desert. The severity and drama are heightened by the figure of a decomposing horse on the cracked surface. This image was produced with the Iraqi artist Zainab Aldehaimy at the Ebro Reservoir in summer 2023.
