Txaro Arrazola is an artist who explores the limits between the private and the public, between his own ego and alien space. He believes in the social role of art insofar as it is able to exorcise images of poverty, wars, natural disasters and to propose a reflection on such issues from an alternative platform to the mass media. It is his way to contributing to raise awareness about current issues in contemporary society.
In the case of Favela negra No.5 [Black Favela No. 5], Arrazola embarks on an aesthetic reading of the problems of housing, slums, refugee camps or, in general, the fact of living outside established urban space. In particular, this work uses expressive brush strokes and the size of the canvas to depict and dignify a space that is usually marginalised and stigmatised by society.
