This piece with a huge gestural force already contains some of the paths that have steered David Arteagoitia’s work since his residency at BilbaoArte in 2008.
He regularly produces large prints, driven by powerful gestures in the form of thick strokes and patches, reminiscent of the work of Cy Twombly. In the same way as many Art Informel, painters, he shows a deep interest in the material of the piece, something that leads to a quirkily risky and fruitful exploration in the graphic arts.
Constant experimenting and the combination of different techniques (foreshadowed here by the addition of chiné-collé, or glued paper, to the print making) is a constant in his work.
