Her investigation begins with the body – as a starting and turning point; it is therefore inspired by butoh, a Japanese form of dance theatre that is visually known for using erratic and grotesque movements, that are often repetitive and found on its sculptures and works. She experiments with fabrics, 3D scanning, welding, ceramics, and always searching for errors, tension and twists. She is attracted by knots, loops, the symbol of links and enclosure. It leaves traces and makes the process visible. The result is body-objects that are twisted like old olive trees, discovering new angles, inhabiting the areas of non-comfort, discomfort, which are recognisable, but also distorted, transformed. These dynamics place her work on the threshold between the familiar and the strange, as an invitation to an intimate reflection of corporeality and its limits.

Judith Voet (Belgium, 1993) is currently completing a Master’s in Contemporary, Technological, and Performative Art at UPV/EHU, during which she was selected by the university to further develop her project at BilbaoArte with an annual grant (2024/2025). She holds a Master’s in English and Hispanic Philology (2015) and a Master’s in Teacher Training (2016) from the University of Ghent, Belgium. She has participated in various group exhibitions, including Responsabilidad Limitada (Bilbao Aretoa), Barruko Gaua Barruran (Okela, Bilbao), Arte Ederrak (Sanz Enea, Zarautz), ART EIA21 (Erandio, Bizkaia), and Getxophoto, among others. While continuing to work as a freelance filmmaker (photo and video) in the fields of visual and performing arts, she develops her artistic practice through photography, video art, performance, and sculpture.
