OPN Studio was set up by Jano Montañés and Susana Ballesteros in 2007. Their work embraces different fields, including art, science and technology. In this case, they explore the concept of synaesthesia, using technology so that the viewers can experience that blending of sensory experiences. They create a hidden thermal matrix, where a thermal imaging camera records as they vary the temperature to then conduct a subsequent study.
La subjetividad de Scriabin [Scriabin’s Subjectivity] is an interactive audiovisual installation that forms part of this project. It focuses on the study by Alexander Scriabin, the Russian composer and who experienced synaesthesia, which was incomplete due to the lack of technological evolution. He established an association between music, colours and emotions. The installation consists of a MIDI 7-octave keyboard. Each musical note is associated with an emotion and a colour by projecting images in different colours based on the Newton colour circle.
