His artistic practice unfolds at the intersection of technology and the social, materializing in performances and audiovisual installations. His work seeks to create situations, often linked to technology or the languages that underpin it, with a critical perspective on the limits of the individual and the construction of identity in contemporary society. He develops his work through various avenues: installation, video, and other technological media, as well as performance. He addresses contemporary and personal issues, inserting himself (literally or metaphorically) as the central axis of works in which his questioning stance against the uncritical acceptance of new technologies is significant. All of this is approached through a lo-fi strategy, close to Do It Yourself.
Alberto Lomas (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1967) is a contemporary artist whose work spans disciplines such as installations, video art, performance, and the use of technological media. He currently lives and works in Bilbao, where he has built a career marked by the exploration of themes such as identity, the limits of the individual, and the impact of new technologies on society, questioning their uncritical acceptance. He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 1992, specializing in painting and audiovisual media. He furthered his training with international workshops at Arteleku (with Antoni Muntadas) and at Quam/Ajuntament de Sabadell (with Francesc Torres). Throughout much of his career, he has collaborated as a co-founder and programmer in various management and self-management initiatives (“En Canal,” “Espacio Abisal,” “Eman Difusión”). In addition to his creative work, he regularly participates in roundtables and other initiatives within the sector.
