The work occupies a space somewhere between drawing, painting and space, from a perspective that seeks to transform narrative languages and approaches – graphic, audiovisual and linguistic – into other, visual and static forms. The artist aims to explore a flow of unconscious processes, which are also shaped by everyday feelings that are both ever-changing and constant. To this end, she employs this form of ‘diary’ of images, which seeks to anchor itself in the present moment.

‘Behind the Scenes’ emerges from the hidden image that generates a visible one (the behind-the-camera perspective in cinema), as a fantasy in which girls are the creators, masters of technology and inventors of the monster, replacing male characters in the artistic workshops where special effects are created. The work comprises a patchwork-style composition which, through expanded drawing, reinterprets images drawn from fantasy and horror cinema in their encounter with the supernatural. Beltrán aims to push the boundaries of form, seeking a spatio-temporal narrative unity not previously projected. The characters evolve, journeying through the experience of horror towards redemption, constructing impossible scenarios featuring representations of the artefact-machine-animal. Through the painting, the setting reflects a warm beam of light—red, yellow and white—like a field imbued with visual energy that seeks to be emotionally evocative, in a conscious commitment to sentiment.
