Iker Serrano chose painting as the medium to depict his personal universe, where the three Lacanian concepts – the Real, Imaginary and Symbolic – intersect, according to the artist. His tales packed with personal myths and metaphors seek to also generate an experience which also involves selecting the format of the canvases and the plastic resources, mainly colour and composition. His aesthetics include references to Romantic Transcendentalism and to the fun and artificial tone of pop. Punto de mira [In the Crosshair] forms part of the Viaje e isla [Travel and Island] project that Serrano produced at BilbaoArte in 2010, and which reflects his interest in turning the painting into a large screen and entering in it. The work hints at a moment of the artist’s imaginary journey with a fox, which symbolises the animal instinct of the travellers, and the freeing of the burden that can constitute human rationality.
