There is a long-standing familiarity between certain graphic techniques and some of the simplest forms of artistic expression, such as scraping. Burin etching, drypoint or woodcutting involve directly working on the matrix, by making hollows. That same gesture can be found in many messages left on the doors of public WCs or on bus shelters or scratched on cars. Aristide Stornelli is interested in that – largely urban – graphic release of desire and rage, which goes with putting an anonymous message on any surface.  He does not only reproduce the gesture (in this case, directly on the photolith), but he also includes some of the content: a compilation of contemporary core messages.
