The boundaries between fiction and reality are the theme of the work by the artist Ana Riaño. She considers reality to be a construct crossed by the dissimilar stories that we consume daily, from the most traditional and rooted in culture and identity to the new discourses structured by the entertainment industry and the media. Her work is based on the premise that fiction is the way we relate to the world and, therefore, it is part of us, and influences our vision and understanding of the environment.
The work included in the collection is part of her De lo real a lo ficticio [From the Real to the Fictitious] series, consisting of large pieces painted in black and white to simulate a cinema screen. The recreated scene is based on a real frame where she replaces the image of the actor with that of a person who is part of her life. Thus, reality and fiction, life and work, but also their reflection on current issues such as authorship, intellectual property, the role of the spectator, the consumption of cultural products or intertextuality, remain in the same space.
