The work is made up of plaster fragments from failed moulds, where the artist sought to extract different forms from the pieces produced in the studio for the ejercicio-form [Exercise-Form] work during her residency at BilbaoArte in 2019.
The moulds are the result of wanting to reproduce paper forms in clay. Ejercicio-forma was the outcome. However, the moulds in themselves were part of a learning process until she obtained a mould that would work. They are arranged on a wooden and iron display case at eye height.
The art of Marta van Tartwijk (Barcelona, 1990) explores how the image is a way into personal experiences, acts as a hinge for time, context and subjective experiences, by experimenting with the body and language. Her recent work delves into the idea of body movement, based on its depiction and invoking the early films linked to mechanics, light and repetition.
