Líneas de fuerza is a drawing project, supported by other media such as printmaking, screen printing, photography and installation, in which he explores and develops a series of graphic experiences that he calls “fugues”.
It is a series of automatic drawings that calls into question much of the working process the artist has pursued over recent years, acting as an intimate diary of gestures in which there is no predetermined sketch for their realisation. For Manu Blázquez, a línea de fuerza (“line of force”) is nothing other than a gesture that stands out from a background, and this applies not only to drawing or the visual arts but also to life itself. This gesture – strange and unique, incomprehensible and alluring – is what he seeks in this project.
Manu Blázquez (Valencia, 1978) holds a degree in Fine Arts (Bologna, 2009). His artistic research brings together different disciplines, such as printmaking, writing and painting; drawing chiefly on the dialogue between geometry and arithmetic in the production of his work, while also paying attention to certain blind spots where moments of flight and dialogues of automatic lines can be discerned. Since 2013, his work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. Recently, he has taken part in the artist-in-residence programmes Kulturkontakt Austria (2018), the Real Academia de España en Roma (2022) and the Casa de Velázquez (French Academy in Madrid, 2022–2023). He currently lives and works in Bilbao.
