Miquel Ponce’s work focuses on the field of painting. His practice begins by understanding painting as a residue —a mark, a sign— which is why traces of deterioration and manipulation appear throughout his work. Elements such as chance and time are present in his practice, which reflects on the production of images and the crisis of visuality, seeking new paths for pictorial creation.
His works aim to approach painting in a tactile way, questioning representation through the use of materials. This leads him to understand painting as something physical, establishing a formal dialogue with its own constructive elements. In his work, the abstract image appears as a residue of its own act of creation, where the different processes involved in producing the pieces turn painting into a residual image that speaks both about our time and about itself.
His more recent work addresses artistic creation through the very processes of making: the guidelines, constraints, and formal issues related to representation, the art object, and installation.
