Mikeldi Pérez explores the relationship existing between the pictorial image and its physical media. His painting thus attempts to break with the traditional presentation of the two-dimensional image and seeks structures closer to sculpture or installation. Mikeldi starts from this formal concern about the nature of the material to be used and its spatial qualities, along with facilitating elements that can be included in the final presentation of the pieces. His main challenge when adding volume to the painting is to achieve a balance between the physical object generated and its very image to avoid one quality prevailing over the other. Viewers are thus encouraged to approach the painting-object in a different way, and even to question whether they are merely in the presence of pictorial language.
