Taxio Ardanaz’s art currently focuses on studying the different ways of depicting political ideas at times of absolute faith, based on memorials and the ideological and physical traces that these highly conflictive situations have left on us. His chance encounter with the only Republican monument made during the Spanish Civil War that has survived to the present (a monolith in the Sierra de Pándols mountains in Catalonia) was an important turning point when defining the discourse and work of this artist; as this unknown construction clearly speaks of one of the themes that most concerns him as an artist: the ability of art to respond to the personal and collective needs to resist an always adverse reality.
