Alberto Lomas’s proposals lie between the technological and the social, in the form of performances and audiovisual installations. His work seeks to generate situations, usually linked to technology and its underlying languages; it is a critical scrutiny of the limits of the individual and the construction of identity in today’s society.
Among other social problems, Lomas address the climate crisis and studies the reports of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
For the artist’s book, Lomas extracted some of the words that were the content of those of those reports; he embodies them in plaster to then break them into shards and leave them sealed inside a book with black pages, which was vacuum packed and sealed with varnish. The outcome is from a performance in conjunction with his fellow artist Roberto García Barrena at Sala Uribitarte40 in BilbaoArte on 21 June 2024.
The content inside is encapsulated and sealed so it is inaccessible in order to show the distance existing between pathways for action envisaged in the IPCC reports and the subsequent inaction or the failure to implement them. In short, Lomas shows that those words are forgotten, buried and ignored in the future of the system of continuing growth and a black future for Planet Earth.
