02/AUGUST/2002 I took photos from a light aircraft flying towards the Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica, as if flew low over some extraordinary thunderstorm clouds.
02/SEPTEMBER/2001 I started a travel log that I called Memorias Aeronáuticas [Aviation Memories]. My classification approach was close to the documentary genre and my aim was to show specific events seen from an autobiographical perspective. In this case, they were planes landing at La Guardia Airport, in New York, a few days before 11/5.
02/JULY/2001 We were taking a break during a photo session and Mikel Eskauriaza took a portrait of me in front of the Maspeth Gas Holders. These unique tanks, featuring a red-and-white chequered pattern at the top, were instantly recognisable on the Brooklyn’s fragmented skyline. As they had become obsolete, the KeySpan Energy Corporation decided to demolish them, ignoring the neighbourhood protests demanding the holders be preserved and reused.
02/APRIL/2012 I realised that the viewer may consider the planes, the view from a house’s rooftop and recording tanks being dismantled as a combination of stand-alone events. However, I see them as documents that compile the least striking occurrences of all those experienced between the summers of 2001 and 2002.
