The work of Ceballos revolves around the image, sculpture, and textile design. Her technique consists of creating relations between the action measured by the performativity and the need to generate materials or objects that are manipulated in the staging. The aim is to change their function by endowing them with autonomy and ambiguity of meaning.
‘Ecdysis’ refers to the separation and shedding of the oldest skin of some reptiles, such as snakes. This skin change is a metaphor for development through time. The artist uses this process as concept and object, allowing each life stage represented by the skin to be recorded and preserved.
The main structure simulates a shedding with the dimensions of the artist’s body, created for a performative action in water based on a tale about mythological beings who shared their skins in that environment.
The photograph diptych is part of the actions, where the skins are gradually transformed. The artist has designed suits as a second skin of lingerie, of shredding. The set of elements creates an adorned reality with textures and different materials that highlight its sensitive quality and contrasting with the treatment during the interactions.
