COURSE: Digital design and manufacturing. From digital object to physical object’

Registration open until 23 October

A practical course offering an introduction to the main digital design and manufacturing tools available at MediaLab BilbaoArte. Starting with the creation, digitisation and editing of 3D objects, the course will cover the preparation of files and their transformation into physical objects using 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, and CNC machining.

Led by Jon Bilbao — MediaLab workshop tutor. Specialist in digital fabrication, 3D modelling and scanning, 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, and CNC machining.

2, 3, 4 and 5 November 2026.

The course offers a practical introduction to the main tools used in digital design and manufacturing, from the creation or digitisation of an object through to its physical production. It will cover different ways of generating and editing geometry through 3D scanning and modelling, as well as the basic criteria for correctly preparing files for subsequent manufacturing.

Using these models as a starting point, the course will introduce the main technologies available at the MediaLab: 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, and CNC machining, covering their operating principles, materials, possibilities and limitations.

Through explanations, demonstrations and practical exercises, the course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the process and to help participants choose the most suitable tools for each project. It is aimed at artists, designers, creators and anyone interested in incorporating these technologies into their working processes. No prior knowledge is required.
