Exhibition: “A Modern Tradition” (BilbaoArte Collection) in URIBITARTE40

A Modern Tradition is a group exhibition organized on the occasion of the XXV Anniversary of the Contemporary Artistic Production Center of the City Hall of Bilbao, BilbaoArte Foundation. The exhibition brings together around thirty works by artists who have been recipients of grants, assistance, and artistic residencies from the institution over its twenty-five years of existence.

The exhibition constitutes the first presentation of works from the Collection of the Fundación BilbaoArte Fundazioa in the new exhibition space of the center, the Hall URIBITARTE40. This new venue is positioned within the axis of the city’s most relevant cultural institutions, aiming for a better visibility of the work carried out by the historic headquarters of the Fundación BilbaoArte Fundazioa on Urazurrutia Street.

Curated by Javier González de Durana, the exhibition includes a group of national and international artists who, after their time and residency at BilbaoArte, have gained recognition and maintained a professional career in the current contemporary art scene.

Javier González de Durana reviews the origins and context in which BilbaoArte was born as the Artistic Production Center of the City Hall of Bilbao. The book analyzes some of the fundamental milestones and the main lines of work of the center. This monography is accompanied by photographs and documentation related to the artists who have benefited from grants, scholarships, residencies, and exchanges over the past twenty-five years. It also includes images and information about the artists participating in the exhibition and forming part of the BilbaoArte Foundation.
