Presentation of the book ‘Ipar-hegora’ at URIBITARTE40

On 26 March at 7 p.m., the URIBITARTE40 Gallery will host the presentation of the monograph on artist Leo Burge, designed by Jaime Asua (Bilbao, 1997).

The catalogue summarises a year of work exhibited at KAMC Koganecho, Galería Ethall and Atoi, along with some previous exhibitions at Carreras-Múgica, Jorge López and the Bilbaoarte residency. It will also document new compilations created for the Ipar-Hegora exhibition under the same title. The exhibition is presented in the absence of a single body of work that has been reserved for the occasion. Instead, some pieces have been re-edited and rethought both in terms of their itinerancy from one place to another and in their specific relationship to the space at Uribitarte 40. The same is true of the catalogue, as it is a challenge (and not entirely ideal) to turn the publication into a reliable documentation tool, especially given the deadlines for each task. Perhaps they have somewhat separate lives, although they will certainly feed off each other.

A text has been commissioned from Marta Sesé, who brought together the piece Construcción Moldeada (Crudo/Avellana) alongside works by other artists in a collective exhibition at Espai Souvenir in November 2025. Her writing, clear and precise, dialogues with the character of the event itself. Space has also been reserved for some verses by Maialen Olite, who came up with the title while contemplating the waves entering Aizkorri Bay. Leo and Maialen also contribute other verses that appear throughout the book, interspersed like brief thoughts open to multiple interpretations.

Jaime Asua (Bilbao, 1997) studied graphic design, documentary photography and advertising photography. He has lived in Berlin and Brussels and currently lives and works in Bilbao. His interdisciplinary practice mainly moves between two complementary fields: image creation and design. Each project starts with research into the context, materials and processes, seeking utilitarianism and timelessness.

This book will be available free of charge from 26 March at the URIBITARTE40 Gallery.

IPAR-HEGORA

The exhibition is presented as a journey, bringing together different facets of the work: drawings, reliefs, display prototypes and process fragments. Mechanised rods are used extensively in the studio, forming different types of sequences. The encounters and brittle finishes are sometimes used as a constructive principle, structuring the works through their inherent disparity. This interplay between a structured form and the margin of error that constitutes it is a constant feature of the pieces.
