Ismael Iglesias

His practice centres on painting and explores its extension into installation, photography, video, digital imagery and graphic design. His research focuses on the construction of the image and the relationships between perception, representation and reality, incorporating methods linked to contemporary visual and technological culture. Through the fragmentation, zooming, repetition and transformation of images and surfaces, she creates compositions that oscillate between abstraction and figuration. Chance and the manual gesture play a fundamental role in her processes, combining controlled procedures with unforeseen transformations of the material. Chance and the manual gesture play a fundamental role in his creative processes, combining controlled procedures with unforeseen transformations of the material. His work establishes a constant dialogue between pictorial tradition and contemporary visual languages, between the craftsmanship of painting and the aesthetics of the digital image. In series such as Trashpaintings, canvases, plastics and crumpled surfaces become autonomous motifs that challenge the boundaries between representation and reality. The result is hyperrealistic-looking images which, through shifts in scale and context, construct ambiguous spaces where the material and the virtual, the classical and the technological coexist.
