Estoy cansado jefe (I’m tired, boss) – it stems from an unlikely image: imagine a chair that is tired of supporting bodies. An object designed for rest which, after repeating its function time and time again, seems to have lost the ability to do so. Can an object grow tired of its work? Contemplating this image involves extending that logic to the inanimate and opening up the possibility that supporting — or even resting — is never an individual action.
The work of Victor Rico (Salamanca, 1989) is shaped by the experience of precariousness and how a lack of resources affects both everyday life and the processes of artistic creation. From this vantage point, he develops a language that spans installation, visual essay and archive, in which humour and irony function as critical tools for addressing the fragility and contradictions of the precarious condition. The aim is to place vulnerability at the centre of his practice, not as a form of weakness, but as a shared space from which to foster forms of collective identification and reflection.
