WORKSHOP: ‘What a mess’. Led by Erik Kessels

On 29 October, BilbaoArte will host the workshop ‘Qué desastre (What a mess)’, led by Erik Kessels, a Dutch artist, designer and curator with a keen interest in photography. He is co-founder and creative partner of the communications agency KesselsKramer.

The workshop takes place at Art House Zinema from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm and forms part of the Basque Dok Festival, in which BilbaoArte is a partner.

Free admission (capacity: 60 people)

We live in an age where most of the tools we use border on perfection. Our computers, phones, apps and navigation systems never make mistakes. Perfection, however, is not always possible, so sometimes we do make mistakes. Society teaches us to avoid mistakes, but for creative people, photographers and innovators, they are essential.

Erik Kessels talks about how mistakes inspire him and how he turns them into artworks. In a short workshop, he will encourage participants to fail and to make mistakes, and to reflect on whether or not ‘perfection’ is a good starting point for creating new ideas and images; or whether, on the contrary, it can be beneficial to deliberately steer towards a mistake and, from there, find a new direction.
