GUIDED TOURS: ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE 2025/26: NEW ACQUISITION (BA COLLECTION)

On Wednesdays 8 and 22 July; 5 August and 2 September, BilbaoArte is offering guided tours of the exhibition ‘BA COLLECTION ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE 2025/26: NEW ACQUISITION’ in the URIBITARTE40 Gallery, aimed at the general public, in Spanish and Basque, and accessible to people with hearing impairments. The tours will be conducted simultaneously in Spanish Sign Language and spoken Spanish. Admission is free and open to all, subject to availability.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE 2025/26: NEW ACQUISITIONS is a group exhibition presenting the creations of the latest generation of artists in residence at the BilbaoArte Foundation. This project includes the works recently produced by the 12 artists under the Production Grant in 2025/26. In total, around thirty works will become part of the BA Collection.

This group, which includes people of various ages and backgrounds, represents a selection of the latest trends, styles and working methods in contemporary use. Forms and colours that float, supported on the edge of a wall; naïve-looking comic strips beneath which lies a sharp social critique; memory and the senses, latent in the image of the family home; geometric forms that move from paper and the world of ideas to the physicality of ceramics; the bodily gesture repeated across different media and by means of various techniques; colourful geometry that seeks to call painting into question; physical and psychological limits, and the border in its broadest sense, analysed through the connection between image and sculpture; three-dimensional photographic narrative and the search for contemporary definitions of the photobook through installation; space and the domestic sphere used to reveal narratives and hidden details; rootedness and the branches or roots from which we come and thanks to which we exist, through a pure material that alludes to our origins; the resulting, never-before-imagined drawing born of assimilated graphic experiences and of compositions of elements that produce something new; the force exerted by pressure on the sculptural body, making its reaction visible. These are some of the approaches we can see in the exhibition comprising the new acquisitions of the BA Collection. The artists who have created their work at the Foundation during 2025 and 2026 speak to us about these and many other issues, inviting us to think beyond boundaries. Many questions seeking many answers, and further questioning.

In addition, in this exhibition we can see the artists’ books that the 12 residents have developed throughout their stay and through which we can engage with a different mode of expression, in some cases close to their ways of working and in others more distant, opening up our perspective and broadening the horizons of creation.
