Irati Inoriza’s work lies somewhere between visual essay and the construction of artistic ecosystems. Through contextual relationships and by taking a stance, she challenges established notions of the construction of the individual and their identity, both individual and collective, in a changing society.
She establishes an approach to the relationship between research and its contextualisation and translation into images. The collaborative relationships she establishes in the space result not in a narrative, but in a body of images and text that reveal two fundamental aspects of contemporary culture: the complexity and irreducibility of a specific situation to a single reading, and the capacity of an image not to represent a situation but to help us analyse our own construction.
On the other hand, these are projects conceived as a dialogue, which seek to establish possibilities for collective artistic action within normalised contexts.
She understands art as an element that accompanies her in her daily exploration and helps her to decipher the coexistence of context. She draws on references such as ‘The ways in which human beings transform themselves into subjects’ or ‘The subject is divided both within itself and from others’ by Michel Foucault (The Subject and Power, 1988) as an impulse that mobilises the present, the space and the moment in which she creates. She uses strategies of fragmentation, repetition and play to create pieces, especially video performances, that are born on the edge of reality with a poetic form.
His current objectives are to develop his professional training through practical work, complemented by his continuous self-teaching. He also wishes to continue his artistic research through projects that verify the concept of art as a tool for communication and knowledge, with coexistence, exploration and co-creation being indispensable elements of this. Without forgetting to continue learning from the different perspectives of human beings on art.
Irati Inoriza (Balmaseda, 1992). She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country (2015) and complemented her education at the Performance Studio led by Tomáš Ruller in Brno (2013–2014). Her work has been presented in various international contexts such as Farm Cultural Park (WHITE FARM, Sicily, 2014), the 24th Audiovisual Exhibition in collaboration with the BBVA Foundation (Bilbao, 2012), and the 15th Mits Dáielo I Art Festival (Valencia, 2012). She has participated in several editions of ARTESHOP (Bilbao, 2013 and 2015) and in exhibitions organized by Hotel Carlton (Bilbao, 2013 and 2014).
She has also been part of projects and festivals such as Happening in DIOD (Czech Republic, 2014), Performance Festival Malamut (Ostrava, 2013), Activation of Moravská Galerie v Brno (Brno, 2013), From A to B at Sala Rekalde (Bilbao, 2013), and Labo-III at Sala Araba (Vitoria, 2013). At a local level, she has participated in group exhibitions in different Kultur Etxeak (cultural centers) in the Basque Country, such as Emakumeak (Amurrio, 2013), Procesos en torno al espacio (Ermua, 2014), and Exposición de pintura (Balmaseda, 2012).
